Hypnotherapy for Sugar Addiction

‘Addiction to sugar’ hits the headlines regularly these days.  Many of us claim to suffer from this seemingly strange addiction.  For those who are not afflicted, it may just seem that people choose to eat what they eat.  If only it were that simple!  With the dreadful toll that being overweight takes on individuals physically and emotionally surely it isn’t as simple as choice?

It doesn’t help when everywhere you go there are products, full of sugar, purporting to be healthy and wholesome.  Full of energy – unfortunately the wrong sort of energy – that lifts you up then drops you like a stone.  Supermarket checkouts are lined up with the latest super-size bargains.  TV is full of fresh faced healthy people selling the sugary dream.

If you feel that the amount of sugar you consume is out of control and you just can’t seem to get by without it, then hypnosis may help.

I often hear clients tell me that they cant go a day without something sweet.  A few cookies to get them through when they are tired, a small reward when they are feeling a bit down or lacklustre.

There are those who consume their sugary treats in secret, either embarrassed by their inability to stop eating the things that ultimately make them miserable, or tired of the raised eyebrows and frowns from those that seem to find saying ‘no’ so easy.  I have been there and know how dreadful that feels.  Hiding an empty ice cream carton by folding it up, inside out and then squeezing it into an old tissue box so no one sees it in the bin!

It doesn’t have to be like that.  Re-gaining focus and balance is achievable through hypnosis and changing how you think and feel about sugary food can happen quickly and be a lasting change.

Effects of Sugar Addiction

These are just some of the problems that excess sugar can create:

  • Hypoglycaemia
  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • Diabetes
  • Tooth Decay
  • PMS
  • Suppression of the immune system
  • Indigestion

Sugar Addiction Withdrawal Symptoms

Eating excessive amounts of sugar may cause your body to produce more insulin. The extra insulin will make the sugar levels in your blood drop leading  to a craving for sugar and a feeling of hunger which then creates a cycle of craving even more sugar.  Once on that merry-go-round, it can be hard to get off, but it doesn’t have to be.  When you cut out sugar, – you may experience  some of the following symptoms, but these are short term and hypnosis can help to reduce these effects too.:

  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Drowsiness
  • Depression
  • Mood Swings
  • Disrupted Sleeping Patterns

Are You a Chocoholic?

You may feel like it is almost impossible to get through the day without a chocolate fix.  Perhaps you find yourself eating multiple bars in a day or you hide your chocolate stash so that no one knows how much you consume.  Maybe you even lie about how much you eat.

Do you get regular headaches and feel tired and sluggish? Just as with the sugar addiction cycle, chocolate will send you into a spiral of highs and lows.  It is important to get yourself back on an even keel and get your body back in balance

12001100_sFood and especially sugar and chocolate have become our reward for achieving a goal or getting through a chore.  With hypnosis we will work together to develop better, healthier rewards.   We will work together to develop useful strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety.  These strategies will help you with many areas of your life, hopefully leading to a longer, healthier, happier, stress free life.

Hypnotherapy for Chocolate Addiction Treatment

Generally I will use a gentle aversion therapy so that the thought of chocolate no longer appeals to you.  I will associate chocolate in your subconscious mind with something that you find unpleasant.  Often this is enough to stop your chocolate habit straight away. If your issue has deeper roots we will look further to find the cause and deal with it.
